And when I go full screen, I can select Windows display scaling and adjusting it to 125% gives me the perfect font sizes. There shouldnt need to set a custom resolution because all that is going to do is affect your experience when youre not doing GPU intensive tasks (like web browsing, office, youtube etc.). Open Device Manager (accessible by right clicking your Start Menu) Expand the Display Adapters section. Just run it at 3440 x 1440 and lower the settings in games. The game will now play in ultrawide with stretched UI and FMV's. Your display should now present a stretched 16:9 image. While I was testing SwitchResX, I was offered several different resolutions and 4608x1944 60 Hz was offered and looked much better than 3440x1440. Select the 16:9 resolution below your ultrawide monitor's resolution (If 3440x1440 select 2560x1440, etc.). The next 21:9 resolution (natively offered by Mac OS) is 3440x1440 which is a better size, but the text is blurrier. scaling? I'm certain that if it gave me this, I can just select either "Larger Text" or the selection next to it and that would give me the ideal scaling.Īnd for comparison, I'm running Windows 10 virtual machine under Parallels. Windows 10 does not impose any limit on your screen resolutions, it is your graphics card that imposes resolution limits. Select your ultrawide monitor and scroll down to Display Resolution. Why do I not get the "Larger Text" to "More Space" options i.e. There is a 1600x1200 that actually gives me the font size I want however, this is not 21:9 so pointless for the ultra-wide screen! But instead, it gives me a list of screen resolution and even if I Option-click and show all possible resolution options, there isn't one option that will give me the ideal font size. I was hoping I could just go into System Preferences -> Display -> Scaled and be presented with the "Larger Text" to "More Space" options. All is fine, picking up 3440x1440 resolution with 21:9 aspect ratio.īut for someone like myself who doesn't have the best eyesight, the fonts are just a bit too small to be comfortable. I've got an LG 35" ultra-wide display (35WN75C-B) connected to my MBP 16" through DisplayPort via a Caldigit TS3.
